A few months ago, The Academy thought it would be a good idea to introduce another category called "Best Popular Film." They wanted to recognize Black Panther at The Oscars because of its success at the box office, but it was speculated that they didn't want it to compete against "serious" movies.

After a whole bunch of backlash, The Academy decided not to implement the Best Popular Film category. The good thing is that Black Panther got nominated for an Oscar anyway.
